Blackberry Jamn
By Wynn Phillips
I put off buying a Blackberry because I wasn't sure if I needed all
the techie options that came with it. I wish I hadn't waited. Once in
hand, the Blackberry gave me business uses I didn't realized were
available.
Understand that I am not the pursed lips, distracted look, thumbs
working furiously type of gadget user. I use the business aspects of
devices, rarely the installed games or text messaging in the case of
phones. Even though the voice capability is the most used by me,
receiving e-mails automatically pushed from my company is the asset
that probably returns the greatest return on investment. Although one
would think that having email flow continuesly on and off work is
disruptive, I find the opposet. By quickly scanning the emails when I
have a minute, I can short stop problems that would take hours to undo
if left unattended. Doing that really saves me work. Some 4.3 million
BlackBerry users have found the same benefit.
You can buy a BlackBerry on line at various sites, such as onlinecellstore.com or wirelessadvantage.com. The BlackBerry is offered by all providers to include Cingular, T-Mobile, Nextel and Sprint.
In fact, the universal capability of the BlackBerry is one of its
most redeeming qualities. The BlackBerry was born in Waterloo, Ontario
Canada by Research in Motion's (RIM).
Although RIM has chosen to keep a low profile, they made a key
decision early on to make sure their technology got maximum exposure by
targeting top Wall Street executives. In addition, the U.S. Department
of Defense has also invested heavily in the BlackBerry for
communication with their people.
You might have heard of the pending lawsuits against P.I.M. However,
James L. Balsillie, R.I.M.’s chairman and co-chief executive, recently
commented that a notification by the United States Patent and Trademark
Office that it expected to reject five patents held by NTP, the
intellectual property company that started the court case, seemed to be
calming users and potential buyers.
"Wall Street professionals are heavily communications focused,
heavily customer focused, what we found was many of those people could
instantly justify the investment into this, even though it was of an
unproven technology," said RIM vice president of corporate marketing
Mark Guibert.
Bottom line is I really like my BlackBerry. It has saved me
countless hours of work, provided me solid communication, and legal
suits notwithstanding, will be my business tool of choice for the
foreseeable future.
